Dr. Anton Titov, MD: Hello! Today we are with Dr. Thorbjorn Holm. He is Professor of Surgery at the Department of Surgery and Molecular Medicine at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.
Professor Holm has made significant advancements in the surgical treatment of rectal cancer. Dr. Torbjörn Holm graduated from medical school at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm in 1981. He did basic medical and surgical training at Falu Lasarett and St. Görans Hospital in Stockholm. He received his surgical certification in 1988.
In October 1988, Dr. Torbjörn Holm was appointed staff surgeon at the Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm. He is currently a Professor of Surgery at the Division of Coloproctology, Centre of Surgical Gastroenterology, Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden.
For the last twenty years, Dr. Holm has focused on colorectal surgery. He has a special interest in colorectal cancer surgery, especially locally advanced and recurrent rectal cancer.
Dr. Holm defended his thesis 'Rectal Cancer - Aspects on Preoperative Radiation, Surgery and Local Recurrence' in 1996. He has continued his research in this field.
